ABSTRACT
Strontium aluminate, SrAl2O4 is well-known phosphor host material with spinel structure. Mg substituted compositions, MgxSr1-xAl2O4: Eu, Nd (with x= 0.05 - 0.25) were prepared by solid-state reaction method. Effect of Mg substitution on structure and photoluminescence was investigated. Prepared compositions were characterized for the phase and crystallinity by powder X-ray diffraction. The micro-structural investigations were carried out by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) technique. Photoluminescence characteristics show the intense emission for MgSrAl2O2:Eu2+, Nd3+ in the green region (λmax = 512 nm) with long persistence. The green emission corresponds to transitions from 4f6 5d1 to 4f7of Eu2+ ion.
