ABSTRACT
This chapter is meant to consolidate the information presented in the previous chapters and apply the information to the hemodynamically unstable patient. Real-time bedside ultrasonography performed by intensivists trained in basic ultrasound techniques helps to diagnose the etiology of shock, provides information about the patients’ volume status, and has become indispensible in placing central catheters.
