ABSTRACT

sensors networks and, more specifically, body area networks (BANs) are key building blocks of the future generation networks and the Internet of Things as well. In the last years, research has focused on channel modeling and on the design of efficient medium access control (MAC) mechanisms. Less attention has been paid to network-level performance analysis. Thereby, this paper presents a novel analytical framework for network performance analysis with star (i.e., centralized) topologies. This framework takes into account realistic channel statistics and provides several insights on BAN design and analysis.
